The exchanging of marriage vows
is a tradition as old as the marriage process itself. Largely
steeped in folklore, the sharing of vows between a bride
and groom can take a number of forms.
In some cultures the exchange of vows include the lighting
of unity candles, a rose ceremony or hand fastening, or
may even include additional family or guests who enrich
the ceremony with further poetry, prose or music.
Much of the discussion and planning involved with wedding
vows and their exchange, will be a combination of personal
choice, ethnicity and of course denomination. There are
texts available in almost every denomination from Lutheran,
Roman Catholic, Buddhist and Methodist, to Presbyterian,
Zion, Quaker, and Jewish.
